Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) for Primary Teachers


This course will improve your ability to explain subjects in simple language that enables your students to understand. You will be offered ways to help your students get the most out of learning in another language. The course will focus on motivational strategies, interactive teaching and materials development. By attending the course, you will gain a broader understanding of the core features of the CLIL approach and have a wide repertoire of techniques and activity ideas for teaching subjects in English. By the end of the course, your ability to plan, teach and assess learning in your CLIL lessons will increase. A pre-course questionnaire will allow trainers to learn about the participants’ backgrounds and professional aims.

This course is for

  • Primary school English teachers who teach a topic-based curriculum including subject content
  • Primary school teachers who teach subjects such as Maths, Science, History etc. partly or wholly in English or who intend to do so in the future.
  • Participants with an intermediate (B1) language level or above.
  • CLIL teachers who want to improve their use of English in a primary classroom context

Content of the course:

  • Core CLIL methodology and working bilingually
  • Materials evaluation and lesson planning
  • Adapting materials and activities
  • Analyzing the language components in a lesson, scaffolding language learning in content classes
  • Using education technology (eg. apps) in the CLIL classroom
Locations: Budapest, Pula, Vienna
Lessons: 5 lessons per day, 25 lessons / week.
Optional: a day’s visit to a local bilingual school, with observation tasks (course may thus be prolonged to 6 days, 30 lessons)
Time: Monday to Friday (Saturday) 9 AM to 1:30 PM
Price: €400 / 5 days (25 lessons), €480 / 6 days (30 lessons)
